Gruff Rhys
The Merthyr Rising Festival 2014 will be brought to an amazing end with a performance by the legendary Gruff Rhys: Welsh Renaissance man and Super Furry Animal. Gruff has produced work in an an astounding range of musical styes over the years, from his early days with Fa Coffi Pawb, through to more recent projects such as Neon Neon and has made forays into other media such as film, theatrical performance and even mobile phone apps.
Gruff's current project is American Interior a book, film and album based on an investigative concert tour of the American Interior he undertook in 2012, retracing the steps, and looking for the grave of a relative called John Evans. John Evans left Wales for Baltimore in 1792 and walked into the wilderness of the Allegheny mountains in search of a lost tribe of Welsh-speaking Native Americans, believed to be the descendants of Prince Madog.
